Theoretical Knowledge in Critical Patient and Acute Care.

Module 1 of the Critical Patient Master and Emergencies Care aims to consolidate the necessary theoretical foundations for the care of critically ill patients, with an approach to the patient from the prehospital setting, emergencies, and their definitive treatment in the intensive care unit.

Requirements for access to the master's program

  • Access to the master's program: graduates in Medicine or Nursing. Individuals with a foreign university degree that is legally recognized for healthcare in their country.

  • Experience: no prior work experience is required for admission

Methodology and Teaching Resources

  • Theoretical Content. Capsules: The Virtual Campus (Moodle) is an educational tool dedicated to the management of teaching content and also a communication channel with the instructor and among students. On the Virtual Campus, you will find the theoretical content capsules prepared by the MCE teaching team. They consist of short audiovisual sessions and are organized by levels and content.

  • Critical Illness and Emergencies Book: The Critical Illness and Emergencies book (2nd ed. Elsevier 2020) is the structural teaching resource for Module 1. Each student enrolled in this Module will be provided with a copy.

  • AgoraAt the end of each Thematic Area of Module 1, a synchronous meeting called “Agora” will be held. Basic level questions will be addressed through the resolution of clinical cases previously worked on autonomously by the students. These synchronous sessions will be held in person at the University of Barcelona and simultaneously online through the Zoom platform.

Follow-up, assistance, and passing criteria

  • Content Viewing: At least 80% of the theoretical content offered must be viewed. The theoretical content is offered in audiovisual format, called capsules. The capsules are cataloged according to the level of difficulty and the topic. A form will be available to report any issues observed with the audiovisual content.

  • Online Knowledge Evaluation: After each thematic area, an Online Knowledge Evaluation must be completed. It is an individual evaluation, conducted online with multiple-choice questions and limited by time (60 min).

  • Attendance at Agoras: Attendance (in person or online) at 80% of the agora sessions held is required, that is, 3 of the 4 Agoras held per semester.

  • Theoretical Fundamentals Exam: The Theoretical Fundamentals Exam (multiple-choice test) must be passed in both semesters with a minimum score of 60%.
